The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic has arrived and with it comes new regulations for European countries that have rising numbers of Covid-19 infected individuals. The continent has gotten more than 1 million new cases, which continue to increase everyday. Multiple European governments are enforcing curfews and new social-distancing guidelines to prevent the economic damage that comes with full-scale lockdowns. France is one of the countries that have been hit the worst by the second wave, with its cases increasing by approximately 40,000 everyday, so they have imposed nightly curfews. In Spain, a national state of emergency consisting of a curfew at night and domestic travel restrictions, was announced by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez last Sunday. In the U.K., a “high” alert level was announced for some cities like London. Italy has also decided to go through with new strict regulations to avoid having to enforce another hard lockdown like the one that was implemented in the spring. Some countries have decided to enforce lockdowns to prevent the spread of the virus as much as possible. Ireland was the first European nation to restart its lockdown. Wales began its 17-day lockdown to lower its numbers. Although these nations expect losses in employment, they decided to prioritize their concerns about the rapid increases in case numbers.
