Halloween and Coronavirus

Due to the ongoing pandemic, Halloween customs are different this year. People who tend to be creative with decorations and normal traditions are strongly advised by doctors to not attend large gatherings or parties without social distancing. If people do not wear masks, wash hands, or social distance, communities could see a spike in cases similar to what happened after the Fourth of July and Labor Day festivities. To enjoy Halloween traditions while avoiding COVID-19, Infectious Diseases medical director Rutul Dalal suggests minimizing contact with friends and neighbors, not going into other’s homes, and isolating the candy pails and bags after trick-or-treating. Alternative activities to trick or treat such as watching scary movies and pumpkin carving are recommended.
